Palomares, Manuel
Biografía
Manuel Palomares is a university lecturer and researcher at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Spain. His research develops across three complementary areas. First, he studies professional and institutional maltreatment in education, focusing on how vulnerable children, adolescents and their families experience, identify and communicate harmful practices; the organisational mechanisms that enable, normalise or silence them; and the institutional responses that facilitate protection, accountability and repair.
Second, he investigates the educational and epistemic implications of artificial intelligence, particularly how university students integrate generative AI into academic practices and negotiate trust, agency, decision-making and epistemic authority during human–AI interaction.
Third, he specialises in qualitative research methodology and linguistic ethnography, with particular interest in participatory, accessible and ethically robust research involving children, adolescents, families and educational communities.
These lines build on sustained research into dyslexia, learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions, the education of children in residential care and the everyday effects of digital technologies. He is a member of the Red de Investigación en Infancia y Adolescencia (RIYA-UCLM), an interdisciplinary network promoting research, knowledge transfer and good scientific practice concerning childhood and adolescence.
His applied professional background includes founding and directing the Instituto Neuropsicopedagógico de Castilla-La Mancha, which supported more than 1,500 families and developed community programmes for early identification, educational support and professional training. This experience informs his commitment to research capable of producing scientific, educational and social impact.
